AHF President, Dick Salvatierra facilitated a Roundtable Discussion on Universal Health Coverage in Latin America and the Caribbean: Health Benefit Plans. The meeting was held in Washington, DC at the Melrose Hotel.
Presenters included Dr. Amanada Glassman, Center for Global Developmentt, Dr. Rafael Lozano, Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation Dr. Frederico Guanais, Inter-American Development Bank, Dr. Eva Maria Ruiz de Castilla, International Alliance of Patients’ Organization, Dr. Rafael Cortez, World Bank and Dr. Eva Lewis-Fuller, Ministry of Health Jamaica.
Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA)
Headquartered in Trinidad & Tobago, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) was created and launched as a ten-nation regional health care agency working to maintain a healthy and safe environment for all the area citizens.
Following its inception, the Americas Health Foundation joined several Miami-based companies including the law firm of Squire Sanders, the international firm Policy Wisdom LLC, the Caribbean Tourist Association and the Verizon Company, to host and sponsor a half-day discussion to introduce and promote CARPHA to various industry organizations to help strengthen and garner limited financial support for the new organization.
